Homeschooling HomePrograms and ServicesHomeschooling Overview In New Brunswick, a parent or guardian may assume responsibility for their child’s education by applying to home school. The teacher and school no longer assume responsibility for planning, instruction, and assessment. Families who undertake home schooling are responsible to plan, deliver, and document effective instruction. The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development makes available curriculum documents describing grade level outcomes for each subject area, which can be used to evaluate a child’s progress. Families must ensure the student is prepared for an eventual return to the public school system, post-secondary education, or the work world. Students who complete their education through home schooling are not eligible for a New Brunswick High School Diploma. Read the Department of Education's Home Schooling in New Brunswick for more information. Applying to home school When choosing to home school, the parent or guardian must get an official exemption from attending public school by completing a home schooling application form. The application form must be submitted each year. When complete, email the form to asdsinfo@nbed.nb.ca.
